THE FLOCK is based on the long-time observation of a precisely delimited situation—John Mandato and his birds on a rooftop in Brooklyn. John introduced me to the breeding and flying of birds, to the history of his neighborhood, its crimes and murders, and his life as a WWII veteran. I gained his trust, and he allowed me to do my work while he did his: observing and chasing birds. The project consists of photographs, videos, sound recordings, and an interview.
